Talking Book Unit
Talking Book Unit has been actively engaged in recording accessible books for the visually impaired since 1984.
Over the years, the studio has evolved through multiple phases of technological innovation:
- Initially, books were recorded on audio cassettes.
- In the late 1990s, the format transitioned to CDs.
- By the early 2000s, recordings shifted to MP3 format.
- By mid-2000s, a third revolution introduced the DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) format.

- Navigation from word to word, line to line, paragraph, page, or chapter.
- Compatibility with various playback devices:
- Mobile phones
- Flash memory-based DAISY players
- Computers
- Standard MP3 players
DALM Project
The DALM (Development of Accessible Learning Materials) project is an initiative by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment aimed at providing accessible educational content to visually impaired students free of cost.
Materials developed under DALM include:
- Braille Textbooks
- Talking Books
- E-Pubs / Digital Books
- Large Print Books
The project also facilitates the development and enhancement of Braille presses and associated infrastructure to ensure timely production and wide distribution of accessible learning resources.
